Last weekend was San Diego Comic-Con 2022 and Marvel Studios announced a bunch of projects ranging from Disney Plus shows and movies. Because I was so invested into hearing the biggest announcements, I decided to push my previously-scheduled topic to the side and share my favorite MCU Comic-Con announcements. In case you were wondering, NO I did not attend Comic-Con this year, in fact I have never been to one. I am not sure if I would like to attend one because one, tickets sell out really fast for the most popular dates and two, I am not a fan of large crowds especially after the pandemic. However, I was still able to hear the news mainly from social media and also a few Youtube Channels like New Rockstars and Heavy Spoilers. Another reason why I decide to write my next blog post about this is because to be honest, my blog hasn’t been getting a lot of views and attention lately on both the website and through its Instagram, @pressure.shock. I thought if I were to write about something popular in addition to sharing my own life, it would hopefully gain attention. Because of the lack of views on my blog, I wasn’t motivated to write about my next topic which might be covered in the future depending on the success of this blog. BUT, because Marvel is one of my interests and I feel passionate writing about it, I am going to go ahead and share my top 5 MCU Comic-Con announcements.

Before I go any further, here is a recap of the full slate of announced MCU projects from Comic-con 2022. (There was also a first look at I am Groot and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law which are both coming to Disney+ in the next couple of weeks

1. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Teaser Trailer

At San Diego Comic-con, we got a first look at the final Phase 4 movie of the MCU, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ever since the passing of Chadwick Boseman, this film has to be most challenging to produce with the main protagonist from the first film gone. Although it wasn’t revealed how T’Challa meets his demise, the trailer was very emotional. I even got teary-eyed watching it the first few times. The visuals were very beautiful, along with the music that accompanied it. By the time the movie is released this November, the audience is going to go through an emotional rollercoaster mourning the loss of T’Challa, the fall of Wakanda, and revealing who gets to take on the Black Panther title. I am sure that this movie worked very hard to pay tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, and this is my most anticipated MCU movie yet.

2. Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars

Not only did we get plans for MCU’s Phases 5 and 6, there was also the announcement of the next two Avengers film HAPPENING IN ONE PHASE! IN THE SAME YEAR! These are bound to be next biggest Avengers films, and it looks like we are already starting to see that set up from other Phase 4 films. For Avengers: Kang Dynasty, we already were introduced to a variant of Kang the Conqueror (the next big bad villain) in the Loki Season 1 finale. For that film, and Avengers: Secret Wars, some films and Disney Plus shows displayed alternate realities, timelines breaking, and multiple variants of characters. I can’t wait to see how that all plays out in these two films. The downside is that we have to wait until 2025 to see them. Hopefully, there won’t be another global pandemic or anything that would delay these films further back.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3

The final installment of the GOG franchise was announced at Comic-Con. This is going to be another emotional film because director James Gunn confirmed that this will the last time we see the original Guardians lineup. There was also a trailer only shown to attendees at Comic-con but based on a few Youtube videos, it showed the origins of Rocket as a baby. Plus, there was an appearance of the main villain who also appeared in full costume in front of the panel. I am sad to see the Guardians in their final movie, but I am excited to see what the soundtrack is going to be for this film since the first two films had great music.

4. Marvel Zombies

Now I am not a fan anything in the horror genre, including zombies, but after seeing What-If’s episode 5, I was actually hooked onto the MCU zombie storyline. Therefore, that created a spin-off show which was announced during Marvel Studios’ animation panel. It is going to take place after the What-If episode with some of those zombies returning along with some new zombified versions of the MCU heroes. Plus, we will also have some of the Phase-4 MCU characters as the survivors. I can’t wait to see where this series goes, as most films that depict zombie apocalypses do not end well. I would also like to know what happened to the remaining survivors from What-If episode 5 (Spider-Man, Ant-man, Black Panther). Another interesting thing about this announcement is that it will the first R-rated Marvel Studios show now that parental controls have been added to Disney Plus.

5. Loki Season 2

The long-awaited follow-up to Loki season 1 was finally announced for Phase 5. The finale of the first season ended on a huge cliffhanger as the sacred timeline was starting to break which created a domino effect into movies like Spider-man No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I can’t wait to see how Loki is thrown into all this craziness of the multiverse as he tries to fix it. Plus, I enjoyed the acting from both Tom Hiddleston and his variant character, Sylvie and I can’t wait to see more if it.

Honorable Mention: What-If Season 2

What-If was one of the most unique Marvel Studios projects. The show went out of its way to explore alternate realities of the past MCU films. The animation was also very stunning and unique. I am glad this show is getting a second season, and it will include more unique alternate reality episodes such as Captain Carter vs. the Hydra stomper, and Tony Stark in Sakaar (this episode was supposed to be in Season 1). It was also confirmed that the show will be getting a third season following this one.

What I Wished was Announced at Comic-Con

There were some announcements of other Marvel projects that I wished were announced, but it didn’t end up happening. However, there are still chances of them happening either at the upcoming D23 Expo (Disney’s version of Comic-con) or at next year’s Comic-con if Marvel decides to return. It is also worth pointing out that there were a lot of empty slots in the Phase 6 lineup with only three movies announced which leaves room for more.

1. Scarlet Witch Solo Movie

So, the end of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness left us wondering about the future of Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen’s acting has been so phenomenal throughout her arc of Wanda, that I am not ready to say goodbye to her just yet. I believe there is so much potential for her character, that I think she deserves to have her own movie. Plus, she also deserves redemption and a “happy ending” after all the trauma she has been through.

2. Young Avengers Movie or TV Show

Throughout Phase 4, there have been characters that have been popping up that could probably set up the Young Avengers. There was Tommy and Billy Maximoff from Wandavision, America Chavez from Doctor Strange MOM, Eli Bradley from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop from Hawkeye, and we will soon see Cassie Lang in her superhero identity in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. There might be potential for this project to fall in one of the empty Phase 6 slots, and it would be interesting to see if the Young Avengers team-up are going to be in the next two Avengers films. I feel like this team-up is a great way to introduce the next generation of Avengers now that most of them are dead or retired, and I can imagine the Young Avengers creating the same group pose from the 2012 Avengers film during the battle of New York.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

In addition to getting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we will be seeing the Guardians in their own holiday special on Disney+. Because the holiday season is a few months away, it is pretty inevitable that we will soon be getting our first trailer for the special. However, because it wasn’t announced at this year’s Comic-Con, there is a good chance it will be announced at the D23 Expo. There hasn’t been any news on what the holiday special it will be about, so we have to wait for that detail soon.

And that is my top 5 announcements from San Diego Comic-Con 2022 along with what I wished was announced, but might be saved for the future. As mentioned earlier, Phase 4 of the MCU is coming to a close with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I will be doing reviews of Phases 2,3, and 4, but I already reviewed Phase 1 of the MCU which you can check out here. I will also be doing a separate review of the Marvel Disney Plus shows near the end of this year. If there is any other Marvel content you want me to write about, you can DM via Instagram @pressure.shock or send your thoughts here.
