By the time this post is published, I will have already started my new job. Yes, you heard that right. I. GOT. A. NEW. JOB. Luckily, it didn’t take long this time to find one as it only took a few months. I was even luckier when I got the job offer on the same day as the interview. Based on what the company was about, and what the manager told me, I thought it was a perfect fit so I went ahead and accepted it. I also got to meet the executive director, the entire team, and got a tour of my workplace right after my interview! I don’t see any red flags so far, which is a good sign.
After my last job ended, I did my best to apply for plenty of jobs, but sometimes it was difficult to stay motivated because I just wanted a break from working a lot. I know that it wasn’t stressful, but it was still a lot of work for a few months. Therefore, I was once again in the job search process, and you know how that goes (read my difficulties of job search post). For this new job, I didn’t find it on those big job search websites like LinkedIn and Indeed. I found this a local job website that is based in my hometown. I was careful in making sure the job post wasn’t a scam by looking up the company to see it was legit. Good thing it was, and soon after I submitted an application, I got a phone call inviting me for a job interview. The only thing was that this interview was in-person rather than a virtual one. To be honest, I prefer virtual interviews because I don’t have to worry about commute and taking a lot of time to get ready. Fortunately, the place isn’t that far from where I live, and I ended up doing the interview. Right from the get-go, the manager seemed pretty nice and understood the type of job I want to have which is one that has a good work-life balance, and supports my mental health. After meeting the team and getting a tour of the workplace, I got the job offer.
As for what my new job is, I am going to be an office assistant at a non-profit organization. I will share more specific details on what kind of non-profit it is in another post. This is a new working environment for me because I have never worked in a non-profit, so it will be interesting to see what that is like. It is similar to my last job which is doing many clerical tasks. I decided to take this job offer because it will give me good experience as I am still trying to find out my dream job. At first my parents weren’t satisfied with it when I told them. However, this is my career and I decide what to do with my path even if it doesn’t please anyone. Once again, I hope this job doesn’t end up being toxic where it harms my mental health. I still remember the trauma I felt when working that banking job where I couldn’t escape until I got fired. However, I have to move on and focus on my new career because I can’t do anything about the past. This time, it is a permanent position, so I also hope to stay a little longer than my last couple of jobs. But, if I do start to find signs of a toxic work environment, I will make the decision to run from the job.
This job starts next month, which is why I am working on this post earlier and hoping to get it published right at the beginning of next month. Just like I did with the last job, I will provide updates on how it is going. I will still be working on blog posts in between, but I will have to limit it once a month depending on how busy I am. Right now, I am doing a series where I am re-publishing my study abroad blogs from 5 years ago. The first one is already published, so if you haven’t, please go check that out. Looking ahead to the end of the year, I hope to once again do a holiday blog series as long as my job does not get stressful. I will definitely be watching the latest Marvel Disney+ shows and movies. For now, I am going to be focusing on my new job in the first few weeks. Hopefully it will give me a good work-life balance so I can have time to do what I love. Once again, thank you for following me on my career journey. I know it hasn’t been easy, but I am only looking forward to what’s to come, and hopefully I am one step closer to my dream job. For those of you struggling to find a job, you will get through this. All it takes is one yes from one company, so don’t give up.
Also please continue to support the Maui wildfires relief by donating to one of these companies below (also have links at end of my MCU Phase 3 review post). It is going to take a while for the families affected to get back on their feet, and to rebuild an entire town. I may not exactly be from Maui, but it is still part of my state, and I used to have family over there.
