I Finally Got a Job (for Now…)

It finally happened. After months of searching, applying, and getting several rejections, I thought this day would never come. I. GOT. A. JOB (well sort of, I will explain that later on)! I actually couldn’t believe the moment the job offer letter was sent to me, and after only one interview. It didn’t even feel like a regular interview, it was just the manager telling me the position, and they didn’t ask me questions at all. I know for some of you, it can be suspicious that it was only a one-way interview, but I will explain what the job is, where I am working, and how I found this job.

Back when I got fired from my job last year, my mom suggested I should work for the state government where this job only lasts for about six months, but pays a lot. I don’t know much about politics or working for the government, but I heard that the public is invited to give their opinions. Hopefully I learn more about once I start my new job. There are several job postings listed, ranging from a researcher to an office assistant, and they are all temporary, since that is the length of the sessions. I wasn’t interested at first because I wanted to apply for other jobs that matched my skillsets.

And so began the long process of searching and applying for jobs. Like I said in an earlier blog post, it was very difficult as most of my applications were either getting ghosted or rejected. I had a couple of interviews here and there, but not as much. There were even some positions where I thought I fit all the qualifications, but ended up getting rejected. As time went on, I grew desperate and thought I would never get a job after getting fired, and being unemployed for so long. Then I saw the job openings for the state job that my mom mentioned, and started looking into them. I decided to apply for the data entry/office assistant position because I thought it fits my current skillsets compared to the other ones. I submitted my resume and cover letter, and I prayed that someone would respond, and that the job application process was smooth. Two days after, I got a response from the manager of the position saying they want to have a casual zoom interview with me. I never heard of a casual interview before, but I still prepared for it, and the week after Thanksgiving, I had the interview. They explained to me that the job was basically preparing documents which involved scanning, editing, and processing. I thought that it didn’t sound too bad as long as it didn’t involve dealing with finances like my last one. I made the decision to move forward, and continued to pray that the rest of the application process isn’t difficult. Then, one day after I posted my letter to Santa, I got an email with the attachment, which turned out to be my job offer letter.

Once again, the job position is called data entry/scanner. I know that it isn’t my ideal job, but hopefully it will give me purpose and teach me some skills that I can apply in my future career. In fact, I don’t really know what my dream job is; currently I want to work in human resources and recruiting, but I am not sure if I want to stick to that. Honestly, I just want to have a job that will make me happy. Speaking of which, my hopes for this new job is that it doesn’t not end up like my last job. To recap, my last job was stressful where I made a lot of mistakes, leading me to burnout. My managers were not satisfied with my performance with one of them threatening me, and the other acting like a bully. Eventually, that led to me getting fired. I do not want have a job experience like that again because I deserved to be treated with respect even if I mess up sometimes. I also hope that this job has a good work-life balance, so I can continue to do other things in my free-time (see last blog post for more detail). However, this job is temporary lasting only about 4-6 months based on the length of the session. That means I have to find another job after that, but for now this one can give me time to make income (and for me to get out of the house since I have been spending a lot of time there). I will also be looking for permanent jobs when it gets closer to completion.

This job doesn’t start until next month, so I still have lots of time to write more posts. I will try to squeeze some time in to continue with this blog when my job starts depending on how busy it gets. I will be sure to write updates on how the job is going, and whether I like it or not. Even if I am not satisfied with the job, it is only temporary, and I bet it you it will go by pretty fast. I just also hope my parents are satisfied with my job, especially my dad who can be a hard critic at times. For now, I can rest assure that this time, I finally got a yes; I mean I have submitted hundreds of applications that I lost count. Honestly, this is actually the best Christmas present ever, so thank you Santa for granting one of my wishes. I also want to thank you all for following me on my career journey, and I know it is not the end yet. I hope you will continue to follow my career path, as I work on finding my ultimate dream job. For those of you who are still struggling to find a job (especially those that just got laid off recently), I hope this post will serve you as inspiration that your career is not over. There are other companies that will want to hire you, no matter the obstacles and challenges you encountered.
